If you are looking for the wooden items that I used to make, please find them on this page:  they are not as popular as I had hoped, and are being put aside.

 This site is still growing: things will be added and adjusted as they are completed. But the basics are here!

Books are available now in e-book format! Smashwords (and now your favorite retailer!) have consented to carry the newest one: To Be Tried By. . . . This is a look at the Western Indian Wars-era soldier's daily life, contrasted with the punishments and conditions under which the wrongdoer lived.

Getting Ready
The basics of web site building have been around since the 1990's, but have changed and grown along with the technology. Our goal, together, is to create a site that

  • Is friendly to visitors
  • Gives them information quickly so they stay on your site
  • Is able to be used on anything from an older phone to a modern computer
  • Looks professional for all visitors
  • Has regular site maintenance to keep your page fresh and safe.

Working Together
The number of people visiting web sites every day continues to grow, and to get you the best site, on any device that your visitors may use, is a task that seems simple on the surface, but can quickly get complex. Setting up a web page with us is easy: we help you make the best decisions, and take some of them on for you.

We at Rings and Reads try and make the site friendly, even for those who have visual issues, by using the tools available now. The basic site will be sculpted with that idea in mind. Scheduling maintenance keeps the site secure, and fresh: no worries about outdated information!

Once the basics are there, we will look at other things to add interest and make your site more memorable.

     *  Pictures and other media:
Pictures, music, and videos can give an in-person look at the subject of the page. However, we've all been to those sites that overload with so many things playing, flashing, and moving that it's impossible to get any information quickly. A balance of these elements is what we're striving for, and what will give the most professional appearance to your site.

    *  Text, Trademarked, and copyrighted information:
This is where a lot of the time comes in: the information you provide is what is going to be displayed. It needs to be accurate, informative, as well as be legal. If you are using trademarked or copyrighted text or images,the notation of these must be included. Use permissions, in some cases, need to be available, and might need to checked by an attorney.

    *  Descriptions:
Descriptions of any charts, pictures or services gives your visitor information that may not be obvious at a glance, or is something you want to make sure they see, If you are selling products, offering services, or supporting a cause-- this becomes even more important. Looking at the amount of detail you need for each media presented may lead to a change of text, where it can be highlighted or repeated.

    *  Colors and type styles:
At this stage, you will start choosing the theme. There are many tools available to insure that the colors, text, and pages have a consistent, readable, and attractive appearance. We also will discuss the icons, size of the type, and other aspects that will make your page stand out, even in a bookmark link. None of the color choices will be applied yet, so you have time.

Why do I need to worry about maintenance?
Due to the nature of computers, the languages we use are constantly evolving. By maintaining the site, you can insure that the newest -- and most secure -- options for your site are in place.
A maintenance option will let us worry about keeping up on the latest versions and threats, freeing you to concentrate on your work and life. Plus, this will allow you to keep your page up-to-date: a focus on specific items, or a new special or product.

The information that you present to the world may not change, but occasionally people do. This scheduled service allows the correct information for your clients to come in on a regular basis - which makes sure that the changes are consistent across the site.
